It is never pleasant to receive invoices, but it is much worse to have paid and still be subject to enforcement.

The BGH decided on November 5, 2004 (re: IXa ZB 32/04) that your objection is to be heard not only during the proceedings of the countersuit against execution, but also during execution itself. But merely claiming that you have paid will usually not stop execution, you will have to prove it! Until this judgment, you were lucky if the bailiff would listen to such objections.
